AUSTRALIAN DIGITAL IDENTITY BILL

On 1 October 2021, the Hon. Stuart Robert MP, Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business released the exposure draft of the Trusted Digital Identity Bill and related legislative instruments for public consultation.

Your feedback on the exposure draft of the Trusted Digital Identity Bill package will help ensure the Bill meets the needs and expectations of the Australian community.

You have until 5:00 pm AEDT on Wednesday 27 October 2021 to upload your submission on the Bill and the Regulation Impact Statement

FACTSHEET

What is the charging framework?

We’re working to develop a fair and transparent charging framework that will support the expansion of the system and ensure it is sustainable in the long-term. While this isn’t included in this legislation, it will be enabled by it.

The charging framework will only apply to businesses and governments who will participate in the System.

SO, HOW EASY WILL IT BE TO CHANGE THE LEGISLATION ONCE THIS IS APPROVED?

IT'S AS SIMPLE AS PUTTING THROUGH AN AMENDMENT

THE LEGISLATION STARTS AS OPTIONAL, BUT HOW LONG UNTIL IT BECOMES MANDATORY?

Unknown. It could be a couple of years to a decade. Remember, once it is approved, they want to charge businesses to use it.

WHAT COULD THEY POSSIBLE WANT TO ADD LATER?
