Has the Senate Select Committee on COVID-19 lost its integrity?

Let's take a look 👀

Here is the Committee Chair Senator Katy Gallagher in June talking about the frustration of lack of Government transparency with regard to pandemic modelling data

Yet, in November, when Senator Rennick pointed out small trial size of children aged 5 to 11, and lack of transparent trial data regarding initial Pfizer trials, we saw a different Senator Gallagher...

And just like that, Senator Rennick was reminded of his responsibilities to Government.

Transcript:

This has happened before...with Senator Lambie...

In June 2021, Senator Lambie was very concerned about Vaccine injuries and the need for a compensation scheme as people would and were getting injured from vaccines.

Then in November, Jacqui was against all aspects of the covid-19 vaccination anti-discrinination bill...a lot of her speech was aimed at ear bashing One Nation Senators Hanson and Roberts; accusing them of holding their views for financial gain.

Here is is snippet of her rebuttal to to Bill:

I don't think so, not on my watch. Here's the thing. Being held accountable for your own actions isn't called discrimination. It's called being—you wouldn't believe it—a goddamn bloody adult! That's right; it's being an adult. It's putting others before yourself, and that's what this country is supposed to be about. We don't have lockdowns and border restrictions because state premiers love discrimination. That's rubbish. We have them because state premiers don't want people dying, because they don't want to be playing Russian roulette with their own people's lives. That is why they're doing it.
One Nation is the champion of the right for unvaccinated COVID-carrying mainlanders to come to Tasmania and create an outbreak. I don't think so! It's not going to happen under my watch, and I doubt very much it's going to happen under Peter Gutwein's watch. We're not going to stand for it. One Nation are the enemy of health workers and officials who would have to clean up after the outbreak. Everybody pays for COVID-19. Every day that we have to deal with lockdowns and restrictions is a day when a business goes bust, a family breaks down in despair and a person takes their own life.
The way out of lockdowns and restrictions is vaccination, because there is nothing else on the table. Let's be honest about that. It's how we protect ourselves and it's how we protect each other. It's how we stand together. It's how we fight back. It is the only weapon we have, and we need to do everything we possibly can to keep ourselves safe, our kids safe, our grandchildren safe and our friends and family safe. That's what we need to do, and sometimes sacrifices have to be made.
You are patriots. We should be celebrating vaccinated Australians. You are fighting for our freedoms, to take control of our lives again. That's what you're doing, and good on you! It's a proud day for you today, and so it should be. Good on you for showing the courage to do so. You're the best we have. You are at the frontline fighters. You are displaying the kinds of qualities that make this country the great country it is. That's what it takes: sacrifice.
I was brought up believing in responsibility, to look after people who cannot look after themselves, and that nobody owes you anything. So go out and earn what you want. Go out there and earn it. This bill flies in the face of all of that. That's why I absolutely oppose every bit of it.

And Jacqui's quote about One Nation's wanting to grab a 'quick buck or two' in that speech is as follows:

One Nation pretends to be on the side of the people, but they are happy to tell fibs to their own voters if it means they can make a quick buck or two.

And what did Jacqui have to query in the last Senate Select Committee meeting on COVID-19?

Hmmm, not what I would have expected to be asked given the main focus of that meeting was with regard to COVID-19 vaccination of 5-11 year olds.

Lastly, and most concerning, is the role being taken by the TGA!

According to their own website, the TGA explain their risk-based approach when considering the risks and benefits of approving medicines and vaccines:

"Whether applying a bandage, relieving a headache with items from the supermarket or undertaking a prescribed course of treatment to manage a serious illness, Australians can expect the medicines and medical devices they use to meet an acceptable level of safety and quality. No therapeutic good is risk free. The work of the TGA is based on applying scientific and clinical expertise to decision making, to ensure that the benefits to consumers outweigh any risks associated with the use of medicines, medical devices and other therapeutic goods. For example, some blood pressure medications may include side effects, such as a tickle in the throat or persistent cough, but this risk is outweighed by the benefits of reducing the risk of a heart attack or stroke.

The risk - benefit approach assures consumers that the products they take are safe for their intended use, while still providing access to products that are essential to health needs.

Risk information is used by the TGA when deciding whether to approve a medication for supply and the conditions that might be imposed on that approval. The level of TGA regulatory control increases with the level of risk the medicine or device can pose and determines how consumers can access these goods. For example a low-risk product may be safely sold through the supermarket, while higher-risk products may only be supplied with a prescription.

A product's 'risk' is determined by a number of factors, including whether:

  • the product contains a substance scheduled in the Poisons Standard

  • the product's use can result in significant adverse effects

  • the product is used to treat life-threatening or very serious illnesses

  • there may be any adverse effects from prolonged use or inappropriate self-medication

Risk is not an absolute concept. It is an assessment of the potential of a product to do harm to those it is intended to help, or to others (such as children) who may come in contact with it regardless of whether the harm results from following or disregarding the directions for use"

NOWHERE does the risk-benefit analysis discuss, detail or analyse the social or political risks or benefits when considering approval of a medicine or device.

Despite acknowledging the negligible impact of COVID-19 disease in children, weighed against a higher incidence of severe adverse events from vaccination (incl. Myocarditis), the TGA took the political angle by mentioning disruption to education and school closures as some of the factors.

They sure don't sound like medical risks/issues to me!

As a weak couterargument, the TGA also throws in the following information as filler to try and bolster their advice...

1. Dr. Kelly advises that children do still transmit COVID-19.

Dr. Kelly knows that, although this is true, the vast majority of children contract COVID-19 from their parents at home, and not the other way around.

2. Dr. Kelly states that 1 in 3,200 children get Multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) after having Covid-19

Dr. Kelly knows that, the ratio of Children who contract MIS-C in Australia is lower than that rate, he fails to mention that all 4 children who developed MIS-C -19 in 2021 (out of 22,222 cases) made a full recovery. Only 2 kids were even admitted to ICU.

3. Dr. Kelly mentioned that COVID-19 vaccination did affect 4 children 5-11 in the USA but the cases were 'short-lived' and 'self-cured'. Surely Dr. Kelly knows...

1. It is far too early to know if Myocarditis from the vaccines is resolved/cured given the short period of elapsed time since vaccination against COVID-19 began. 2. While we often associate cardiovascular conditions with elderly populations, myocarditis can affect anyone, including young adults, children and infants. In fact, it most often affects otherwise healthy, young, athletic types with the high-risk population being those of ages from puberty through their early 30’s, affecting males twice as often as females. Myocarditis is the 3rd leading cause of Sudden Death in children and young adults. (Source: Myocarditis Foundation)

3. Cardiologists typically recommend a resting period of three to six months after viral myocarditis to allow the heart tissue to heal without intense physical exercise.

(Source: Myocarditis Foundation) 4. Myocarditis can recur, and in some cases can lead to a chronically enlarged heart (called dilated cardiomyopathy). There is no known way to prevent recurrence of myocarditis. However, the risk of recurrence is low (probably about 10 to 15 percent).

Why has integrity disappeared from the Senate Select Committee on COVID-19?

What happened between August and November???

  1. Why did Senator Gallagher change from being critical of lack of Government transparency to frowning upon another Senator asking questions and challenging the vaccine narrative?

  2. Why did Senator Lambie change from being concerned about vaccine compensation for those suffering vaccine injuries, to vilifying unvaccinated Australians, and appearing more concerned about how much pharmacists make per jab compared with GPs?

  3. Why did Dr. Kelly, with his decades of infectious disease and extensive background of epidemiology make political considerations to justify children being vaccinated, and downplay the risks associated with myocarditis resulting from vaccination?

  4. Why do Dr Kelly's statements in this Committee, fail to line up with well-known information about COVID-19 and its impact on children?
